It’s surprising that after over a decade of making art seriously I’ve never made a tabletop sculpture until this piece! The process of making it may sound a bit tedious and unnecessary but I needed to Frankenstein a substructure for this piece. Since the pegs are all 2 inches long I needed the inner block of wood to be very specific dimensions so I used a bunch of scrap wood in the studio to assemble what should have been a more simple rectangular block of wood. Just as I planned with the other flat prototype pieces, I intended on doing a resin pour on top of the finished sculpture to sort of lock-in all the pegs. The resin didn’t turn out as I hoped on the other test so I decided to leave this one as is. The pegs are attached with a light adhesive tape but every now and again, pegs have randomly fallen off mainly due to the downward pressure on the pegs that touch the base. As this has happened I’ve used a stronger glue to reattach many of them, but I’d guess a couple more may fall off and need to be reattached. It’s not a big deal and I’m happy with how it looks, but in future variations I’ll use a stronger adhesive during assembly.
